Welcome!

The only thing on this site at the moment is “Notes on a Three-legged Deer,” the result of gathering up photos, videos, scribblings, and recollections about a two year experience with does and fawns living and doing all their living things in my “yard,” about an acre and a half on a small river in Washington state.  As part of that, I’m gathering up questions I really want to ask people tied to WA state deer in this specific area.  If you know anyone like that, send ‘em this way.

As far as living with deer, mostly, I’ve left them alone, meaning I wanted to maintain more natural interactions with them as we all went about what we needed to do on the property. I wanted to see what they do with as little human distraction as possible, how they would use the place, how they’d accommodate me sharing their turf and how they’d handle some visual “rules” I was putting out there, mostly related to the garden.  I’ve liked the result. I’ve seen some phenomenal behavior, and they’ve been comfortable here but not intrusive.  It wouldn’t take much to discourage them from coming back regularly or staying out of a part of the property if there were a reason to do so.

If you’re interested in seeing deer behavior and some cute fawns but don’t want to read about them, there’s sample photos and videos in a clickable list in the pull down menu up top.  There’s also a Table of Contents with a clickable list of the posts and topics they cover. The heavy use of photos and videos isn’t too bad, but it’s still best to let a link load a sec before starting to scroll through. You can click on and enlarge most photos in the regular posts.  Use the back button to return to a page after enlarging a pic.   -RR
